With the firefighters still on there way, and with no way of Erika getting inside the house, Polo bravely stayed inside the bedroom with Viviana. Erika said that Polo could have easily run down the stairs and escaped safely, but instead, chose to protect the baby from the flames, with his own body. When firefighters arrived, they found Viviana with Polo still covering her with his body.

Paramedics were able to revive Viviana at the scene. Erika said that it seemed as if the dog had a feeling something was going to happen that day. He was crying, following her around, and even had an anxiety-induced seizure. “He was everything to me, along with my daughter,†Poremski says, of her now deceased dog, Polo.
